Another reason could be that you are using too much force while flossing. The correct way to floss is to use a gentle sawing motion while trying to ease the floss between the teeth. Never snap the floss into the gums. Once it passes the contact area, you should curve the floss into a C-Shape against one tooth and gently slide it into the space between the gum and the tooth. Use up and down motions pressing the floss tightly against the tooth surface. Do the same for the rest of your teeth including the backside of your last tooth.
